valentine lunch ideas

If you’re looking for some lunch inspiration for your little Valentines, you’ve come to the right place.

I’ll be the first to admit that these certainly aren’t the healthiest Valentine lunches you’ll find on the internet but they sure are cute and they were pretty easy to put together too.

Cam has asked to give lunch meat sandwiches another try. Her one condition was that I must use Hawaiian bread.

So in her Lock&Lock today, she has turkey on a Hawaiian sub roll, veggie chips, and a Babybel.

I tucked a couple of pieces of panda baran from this set in her lunch to spruce it up a little.

Sometimes I think that the most accurate description of bento should be: Cramming as much food as you possibly can into a smallish container while still maintaining its visual appeal.

Today’s bento represents that description pretty well.

In Cam’s small four square Lock & Lock box, I packed a whole carrot (sliced into coins), strawberries, grapes, a butterfly shaped cake, and two sandwiches (stacked).

Happy Friday!

Hi!

How have you been?

What have you been up to?

You’re probably wondering where I’ve been.

No posts in over two weeks. What’s that about?

I’d love to tell you that I was on vacation or doing something so interesting and wonderful that keeping the blog current just slipped my mind but that’s not the case.

Unfortunately we’ve been dealing with strep for the last three weeks.

Three weeks people.

I swear my youngest is a magnet for whatever bacterial or viral scourge is going around. If it’s out there, she’ll pick it up and bring it home with her.

I learned recently that nothing will jerk you out of REM sleep faster than a little one screaming for you to come get them and carry them to the bathroom because they “can’t see out of their eyes” and they’re too dizzy to walk.

Needless to say that warranted a trip to the pediatrician which resulted in a throat swab and a prescription for antibiotics.

But not 24 hours after finishing her ten-day course of antibiotics, the strep came back. With a vengeance.

She’s now on her second ten-day course of a much stronger antibiotic and seems to be doing much better.

So… that’s what I’ve been up to.

Now that we’re caught up, let’s talk lunch!

Today is Monday which means that Cam needs snack. So I packed her a homemade organic blueberry and white chocolate chip muffin, some fresh pineapple, and a mix of pumpkin, sunflower, and flax seeds in the little rainbow box.

For lunch, she has four little sandwiches, Cheez-Its, a chocolate drizzled honeycomb flapjack from our Graze box, a fruit rope that I cut in half to fit in the box, some yellow tomatoes, and a few carrot coins.

For lunch today, Cam has a Hello Kitty Biscoff sandwich on potato bread that was cut and stamped with our CuteZCute cutter, some fruit and veggie gummy snacks, Triscuit minis, and some fresh pineapple.

There’s a bit more sugar in today’s lunch than I normally pack for her but that’s o.k. every now and then.

I love our little Lock&Lock box.

It’s been one of my absolute favorite boxes to pack Cam’s lunch in this year and probably one of the most often used (if the not the most often used) bento box in my collection.

It’s held up really well through a school year of use and it holds just the right amount of food for her.

Now that we’re getting close to the end of the school year, I thought it would be a good idea to highlight which bento supplies have become favorites, which ones I use on a regular basis, which ones held up, and which ones didn’t. You get the idea.

I hope that by letting you guys know what worked for us and what didn’t, you’ll be better informed when you make your bento purchases.

Today our Lock&Lock was filled with saltines, a cheddar stick, carrot sticks, broccoli, strawberries, and watermelon.

I purchased mine here.

Unfortunately they are out of stock right now but I know there is a big demand for these boxes so keep checking back. You can also purchase them on amazon.

For lunch today I warmed the last of the homemade herb rolls and put it in Camryn’s thermos to keep it soft and warm until lunch time. I was going to make a sandwich with it today but she wouldn’t hear of it. So I wrapped a slice of deli turkey around some cheddar cheese, sliced into bite-sized pieces, and then put a few picks in for easy eating.

She also has a cara cara orange, grapes, and watermelon balls in her Lock&Lock four square box.

Are you ready to see the simplest lunch I’ve ever posted on this blog?

No picks, no baran, no cutesy cut-outs.

Just lunch in a box.

I wasn’t in a hurry or pressed for time due to waking up late.

Every now and then I just like to keep things simple.

Today’s lunch definitely does just that.

In this lunch:

  • 2 Chicken sandwiches
  • Veggie chips
  • 2 Homemade chocolate cookies
  • Grapes

That’s a pretty simple lunch.
