Spring Break is ovah!

The kids are back in school where they belong and all is right with the world!

Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids.

But when all four of us are cooped up in our small home and 3 out of the 4 of us are sick, it’s no picnic.

There were no trips to the beach or play dates in the park for us last week. Just 9 straight days of 102 degree fevers, incessant coughing, running noses… and the dreaded stomach virus.

I was the only one that made it out of the other side of Spring Break unscathed.

Maybe it’s all my years of having small people cough and sneeze in my face that have rendered me impervious to viruses. Who knows?

I’m just glad the whole ordeal is done.

I made banana bread over the weekend and I threw in some chopped caramels as a special breakfast treat for my adoring children. Their response was “Um, yeah Mom – this banana bread is fine and all but you’re gonna get us some waffles tomorrow, right?”

Ingrates.

Anyway, I thought instead of a sandwich, I’d put some of that banana bread in Cam’s lunch today. I used our FunBites Cube It! to easily cut it into little bite-sized cubes so she could just pop them in her mouth. She also has a Babybel cheese (her new jam), Annie’s Organic Fruit Snacks (under the cheese), strawberries, carrot sticks, and a little treat from her Easter basket.

What is it about Daylight Savings Time?

We lost an hour yesterday but somehow I’m all out of whack today.

What’s that about?

I’m great with the whole gaining an hour situation that happens in the fall, but the idea of losing an hour for no good reason is just too much for my brain to comprehend.

There was not enough coffee in the world to correct the zombie-ape like shuffle that happened en route from my bedroom to my kitchen this morning. You know the one: knuckles dragging, eyes half-opened, unable to process coherent thought or string together intelligible sentence structures.

And I had to put a lunch together in that condition. In a hurry too because naturally, we woke up later than usual.

On that note, here’s lunch:

In my sleepy stupor, I managed to finagle half of a chocolate hazelnut sandwich, some fruit leather tulips, carrots, grapes, and tortilla chips somewhat neatly into Camryn’s Lock&Lock box.

Then I noticed that there were only three colors happening in her lunch. Seriously, I can’t keep from spilling the same drink twice but when it comes to color coordination – even subconsciously, my skills are top-notch.

So I threw in a couple of pieces of baran to jazz it up a bit and called it done.

Happy belated Daylight Savings 😉

For lunch today, I packed a chicken sandwich on swirled white/wheat bread, Angry Birds graham crackers, a mandarin, strawberries, grapes, and pretzels.

How cute is that squirrel cup?! I have a thing for woodland creatures.

Bunnies!

Today’s bento has bunnies in it – lots of bunnies. In fact, it may be bunny overkill.

Unless you’re 5. In that case, there’s no such thing.

In today’s lunch Cam has: 4 PB & Co. White Chocolate Wonderful bunny sandwiches, 2 organic fruit leather “hops”, bunny & carrot shaped pretzels, broccoli, grapes, carrot coins, bunny cheese, and 2 star-shaped cookies.

As I was looking around for lunch ideas last night, I happily discovered that I had lots of kitty bento stuff – most of which I hadn’t used yet. So I made a kitty cat bento for my kitty cat loving kid.

We had an impromptu sandwich spread taste test after school yesterday. Cam said she was ready to try peanut butter again so once the shock wore off, I grabbed every jar of anything that would spread on a cracker I could find. I figured I might as well milk this opportunity for all it was worth.

She tried Biscoff spread, PB  & Co. White Chocolate Wonderful, PB & Co. Dark Chocolate Dreams, and regular old peanut butter.

Oddly enough, she had already tried a couple of these items before and swore to me that she hated them.

Well guess what? This time she liked them all.

Kids are fickle.

Biscoff won the taste test by a landslide. Followed by the white chocolate peanut butter, the dark chocolate peanut butter, and lastly – regular peanut butter.

Since she was so fond of the Biscoff, I put some in her lunch today in the middle of a kitty sandwich with a teeny bit of jelly. She also has cat-shaped cheese (oh my word), carrot coins, and Annie’s Cheddar Bunny Snack Mix in the cat cup.

Happy Friday!

The couscous is making another appearance. What can I say? The kid likes her couscous.

We had some grilled chicken leftover from dinner last night so I added a few pieces along with a bit of green leaf lettuce which Cam likes to munch on every now and then. She also brought two happy cheese faces in their party hats to lunch today.

I found out during Math Night earlier in the week that the Assistant Principal at Cam’s school comes in to the cafeteria every day to see what she has for lunch. How cute is that? I hope she gets a kick out of today’s lunch.

Camers also has mandarin wedges, grapes, all natural peach and mango gummy hearts, and two star-shaped cookies from The Fresh Market.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Today’s bento has a bit of a bear theme happening.

Or maybe it’s a B theme. Bears, bunnies, berries – yep. Let’s call it a B themed lunch.

There are four turkey sandwiches stamped with bears, one of which happens to be wearing a little hat. The cuteness is almost … unbearable.

Yeah, I’ll stop.

Next to the sandwiches is a bear cup with two grape tomatoes and a bear pick. Also in this bento is some Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies snack mix and a few strawberries.

I’m just going to go ahead and point it out (as if you haven’t noticed by now anyway).

I took the picture with the scrapbook paper upside down.

Insider secret: All those super cute backgrounds you see in most bento pics – most likely scrapbook paper.

That’s right. I just blew the lid off this whole operation!

Okay so not really, but it did deflect from my lack of attention to detail for a second.

Whoopsie.

Anywho… the contents of this lunch include:

  • 8 salami and cheese stars on saltines
  • Strawberries with organic fruit leather flower cut-outs placed on top and speared with a leafy pick
  • A brownie heart with a few chocolate covered sunflower seeds
  • Some Disney pretzels I found in the Valentine’s section of Super Target

The pretzels are shaped like cars and tiaras. Although I don’t think you can actually see any tiaras in that picture up there.

For lunch today, I made a ham sandwich with a piggy face. I couldn’t resist.

I also packed grapes, pretzels, chocolate coated sunflower seeds, carrots, and Annie’s bunny fruit snacks.
