What is it about Daylight Savings Time?

We lost an hour yesterday but somehow I’m all out of whack today.

What’s that about?

I’m great with the whole gaining an hour situation that happens in the fall, but the idea of losing an hour for no good reason is just too much for my brain to comprehend.

There was not enough coffee in the world to correct the zombie-ape like shuffle that happened en route from my bedroom to my kitchen this morning. You know the one: knuckles dragging, eyes half-opened, unable to process coherent thought or string together intelligible sentence structures.

And I had to put a lunch together in that condition. In a hurry too because naturally, we woke up later than usual.

On that note, here’s lunch:

In my sleepy stupor, I managed to finagle half of a chocolate hazelnut sandwich, some fruit leather tulips, carrots, grapes, and tortilla chips somewhat neatly into Camryn’s Lock&Lock box.

Then I noticed that there were only three colors happening in her lunch. Seriously, I can’t keep from spilling the same drink twice but when it comes to color coordination – even subconsciously, my skills are top-notch.

So I threw in a couple of pieces of baran to jazz it up a bit and called it done.

Happy belated Daylight Savings 😉

It’s Fancy Sandwich Friday!

I fancied up Cam’s sandwich today by adding some sprinkles.

Okay so sprinkles aren’t as fancy as say… gold leaf. But what kindergartener is going to appreciate gold leaf? Riiiight.

Sprinkles it is then.

And really, I think we can all agree that any time you cut a sandwich into a shape it automatically ups the fancy quotient.

For lunch today, Camburger has a chocolate hazelnut spread sandwich with the aforementioned sprinkles, pumpkin seeds, carrots, grapes, strawberries, pretzels, cheese flowers, and a juice box.

Have a great weekend!

My bento friends are having a blog hop in honor of the new movie Oz The Great And Powerful which comes out tomorrow.

I made a fish bento. Not really on top of things over here.

Actually, I did put a respectable effort into trying to come up with something “Oz” but my crazy brain just kept coming back to fish.

So fish it is.

In today’s bento, Cam has a Nutella sandwich on swirled white/wheat bread. I used picks to spell out her favorite fish’s name. She loved that. I also put some goldfish crackers in the cute fish box. I used small cutters to make some fish, a whale, and a starfish out of cheese. And I put grapes and mandarin wedges in a “leafy” silicone cup. I think it looks slightly like kelp or seaweed so we’ll go with that. 😉

For lunch today, I packed a chicken sandwich on swirled white/wheat bread, Angry Birds graham crackers, a mandarin, strawberries, grapes, and pretzels.

How cute is that squirrel cup?! I have a thing for woodland creatures.

It’s a froggy Bento!

And the last in my impromptu animal themed bento series.

In today’s lunch Cam has a pb&j froggy sandwich, cheese hearts stamped with froggy faces, organic fruit leather tongue and “ribbit”, strawberries, and tiara shaped pretzels which were left over from our big Valentine’s box of snack bags.

All of this froggy fun is packed into one of our Easy Lunchboxes.

Have a great weekend!

Bunnies!

Today’s bento has bunnies in it – lots of bunnies. In fact, it may be bunny overkill.

Unless you’re 5. In that case, there’s no such thing.

In today’s lunch Cam has: 4 PB & Co. White Chocolate Wonderful bunny sandwiches, 2 organic fruit leather “hops”, bunny & carrot shaped pretzels, broccoli, grapes, carrot coins, bunny cheese, and 2 star-shaped cookies.

Cam has a piggy bento for lunch today. I think I’ll go ahead and keep the animal themed bentos going through the end of the week.

In today’s lunch Cam has a PB & Co. White Chocolate Wonderful PB & strawberry preserves sandwich, organic fruit leather “oink!”, an all natural gummy heart, cheese pigs, Annie’s Cheddar Bunny Snack Mix, grapes, and carrot coins.

Cam’s school had a math based scavenger hunt at a local grocery store last night. She adores math and actually does math workbooks for fun so we thought this would be right up her alley. We were right!

Each kid was given a list of tasks based on their grade level and when their sheet was filled out completely, they turned it in to the Assistant Principal in exchange for a goodie bag and some popcorn.

She had such a good time last night so I thought I would make her a fun lunch today to remind her of her super fun scavenger hunt.

In this lunch:

  • Grape tomatoes
  • Carrots
  • Strawberries
  • Clementine – from goodie bag
  • Scooby Snacks – from goodie bag
  • Cheese shapes
  • Pumpkin seeds – in the star box
  • Organic fruit leather

There were also some meal time conversation cards in her little bag of treats so I thought it would be fun to include one today.

I’m not sure why I waited so long to buy a set of Easy Lunchboxes.

I mean, I’m not a lady who makes rash purchases. I do a ridiculous amount of research before I buy anything, but all the reviews I read for Easy Lunchboxes had been overwhelmingly positive. And the great majority of my bloggy friends love them and use them often.

Not that I’m a gal who gives in to peer pressure but if that many people think these containers are so fantastic, how could they be anything but? Right.

Maybe it was the non-conformist in me. I’m glad she got over herself.

When my big box of bento goodies came the other day and I unpacked my new set of Easy Lunchboxes “Brights” – I have to say that I was happily surprised at how sturdy they felt. The lids are brightly colored and just so happen to be Cam’s favorite colors too. Naturally she assumes that I planned it that way. I’m not telling her any different. She’s happy, I’m a genius – Winning.

Pictured below is Cam’s first ELB lunch just before it made its maiden voyage to school this morning.

In today’s lunch:

  • Israeli couscous with sweet peppers, feta, sun-dried tomato, lemon zest, & parsley
  • A mandarin
  • 2 star-shaped cookies from The Fresh Market
  • Strawberries
  • Salad – green leaf lettuce, carrots, grape tomatoes, star-shaped rice crackers
  • Pumpkin and sunflower seeds in the rainbow box
