We’ve talked before about how from time to time I like to send a little something with the hubs to work to munch on.

Makes me feel like a top-notch housewife and it keeps him out of the vending machines in the break room.

There’s nothing good for anybody in those things.

Really, all I’m doing is slapping whatever produce we have in the crisper, a carb, and a little protein in one of his daughter’s bento boxes and then maybe adding a cute pick or two.

No biggie.

But he really appreciates it and the guys at work always come over to see what he has to eat which is adorable to me.

For lunch last night, I sent him with some veggie crackers and a spreadable cheese wedge, cara cara orange slices, broccoli, grapes and carrot sticks all packed in Camryn’s Lunchbots Trio.

Camryn  has dance class tonight. I found this piece of scrap book paper buried in a huge stack filed on my desk and just had to use it because it reminds me of the little girls in her dance class.

None of them actually remind me of Camryn though since they’re all in dresses. Camers wears yoga pants to dance class now because she wouldn’t stop pulling her ballet skirt up to her armpits.

I wish I were kidding.

That was a proud day for me.

For lunch today the dancing queen has heart-shaped chocolate hazelnut sandwiches, pretzel crisps, strawberries, and a cheddar cheese stick cut into pieces.

She also has ice water in her thermos.

For lunch today I warmed the last of the homemade herb rolls and put it in Camryn’s thermos to keep it soft and warm until lunch time. I was going to make a sandwich with it today but she wouldn’t hear of it. So I wrapped a slice of deli turkey around some cheddar cheese, sliced into bite-sized pieces, and then put a few picks in for easy eating.

She also has a cara cara orange, grapes, and watermelon balls in her Lock&Lock four square box.

We’re getting back on track today after a long weekend that included Camryn’s birthday party, a trip to a bouncy place, and a day off of school yesterday.

It’s nice to be getting back into our regular routine again.

I made a loaf of sandwich bread and some herb rolls last night.

Cam and I each had a roll fresh out of the oven.

My intention was to just have a bite to try it but before I knew it, I had devoured the entire thing.

No shame – or self-control, evidently.

Seriously. Is there anything better than freshly baked bread warm from the oven?

Camryn said I had to put one in her lunch today. So I did.

Also in her lunch  are some carrot and celery sticks, a mozzarella cheese stick cut into bite-sized pieces, Greek yogurt with organic granola, and watermelon balls.

Just popping in over the weekend to show you a quick and simple bento snack I packed for my husband the other night.

Every now and then I’ll pack him a snack or a light meal to take to work. He works over night so he doesn’t need anything heavy. Just a little something to stave off hunger & then I make him breakfast (which is actually his dinner) when he gets home in the morning.

I put grapes, broccoli, and cara cara orange slices in one of Cam’s pink bento boxes and then put a few picks in to cuten it up.

I know what you’re thinking… yes he is totally cool with the pink box and yes he is also cool with the picks so I’m free to go nuts when I pack his food for work.

Daily Bento – The Day After

26 Apr

We had a date with a mouse last night.

There was pizza and cake and lots of artificial food dyes followed by more cake and ice cream and running and screaming and ripping presents open and playing with presents and staying up way too late.

Yeah so…

Today seemed like a good day for a little detox.

For lunch today Cam has a veggie salad that contains mixed spring greens, broccoli, green beans, and carrot sticks. She also has a fruit salad that contains cara cara orange slices, strawberries, and grapes. I put popcorn chips and a Babybel cheese in the long section of her Lunchbots Trio.

She also has some organic mac n’ cheese in her thermos.

Happy Weekend

♥ A Very Special Lunch ♥

25 Apr

Today is Camryn’s 6th birthday!

So I made her a fun and festive lunch to celebrate her special day.

For her birthday lunch today, Cam has popcorn chips, strawberries, a party grape, a party tomato, and a cupcake.

She also has organic mac n’ cheese in her thermos:

I went to the craft store yesterday and bought a huge pack of birthday themed scrap booking stickers for $2.40 after coupon to help cuten up her lunch. I still have quite a few left over so I’ll put them away for next year’s lunch.

Are you ready to see the simplest lunch I’ve ever posted on this blog?

No picks, no baran, no cutesy cut-outs.

Just lunch in a box.

I wasn’t in a hurry or pressed for time due to waking up late.

Every now and then I just like to keep things simple.

Today’s lunch definitely does just that.

In this lunch:

  • 2 Chicken sandwiches
  • Veggie chips
  • 2 Homemade chocolate cookies
  • Grapes

That’s a pretty simple lunch.

Instead of asking Camryn what she wanted for lunch, I asked which lunchbox she wanted her lunch to be packed in.

She went right for her Yubo.

We don’t use it very often simply because I haven’t purchased the drink holder for it yet and it can be tricky to fit a drink inside unless you configure everything just right.

When we do use it, this lunchbox gets so much attention at her lunch table. Especially because it has her name on it. When you’re little, things with your name on them tend to be a pretty big deal. Especially when you have an uncommon name like Cam does.

In today’s lunch:

  • Chocolate hazelnut spread sandwich
  • Pretzel crisps
  • Spinach
  • Carrot sticks
  • Mozzarella cheese slices
  • Pineapple & grapes
  • Juice box

As promised yesterday, I have a new lunchbox to show you.

Yes, another lunch box.

You can’t possibly be surprised at this point.

Or maybe you’re new to this blog. In that case – Hello. Nice to see you, I’m glad you stopped by. Additionally, you should know that I hoard lunch boxes.

I suppose hoarding may be taking it a little too far. Can it actually be called hoarding if all of the lunch containers and bento accessories are neatly organized and out of sight in my kitchen? I mean, no one is having to actually climb over or wade through a mountain of lunch packing accessories to get from the front door to the kitchen so…

Maybe we can just call it a lack of self-control fueled by a deep love of all things bento-related instead.

I do think I’m done buying  lunch boxes for a while though.

Or at least until I can free up some cabinet space.

You know, I hardly use my immersion blender. 😉

Anyway, here’s the latest addition to my ever-growing lunch stash:

Laptop Lunches Bento Lunch Box 2.0 – Garden

Isn’t it bright and cheery?

In this Laptop lunch:

  • Biscoff sandwiches
  • Greek yogurt with goji berries and granola
  • Saltines with tzatziki in the yellow container
  • Pineapple and grapes
  • Napkin and spoon

With the lids on…

and with stickers on top, just because.

So what do we think?

The only thing that I don’t like about the Laptop Lunchbox is that Camryn has a hard time opening the containers inside. I put a little vegetable oil on the rim of each box which did make it much easier for me to open but she still struggled at school. Luckily there are helpers in the lunchroom for just this sort of situation.  This is just one of those things that will be easier for her with practice.

Now, on to a convenient bullet-point list of what we love about it:

  • We ♥ that it’s leak-proof.
  • We ♥ that it’s BPA, PVC & lead free.
  • We ♥ that it’s dishwasher safe & microwave safe.
  • We ♥ the lids on the inner containers.
  • We ♥ that it’s small enough for kids to use but could easily hold enough food for an adult as well.
  • We ♥ that it’s bright and colorful.
  • We ♥ that it’s recycled and recyclable.
  • We ♥ that the food containers are made in the USA.
  • We ♥ that it’s waste-free.
  • I really ♥ that it has a special place for a napkin, spoon, fork, chopsticks, or a cheese stick.

This new lunchbox fits perfectly in Camryn’s insulated lunch bag from Garnet Hill (which is a bit on the larger side) but there wasn’t room for her thermos so I had to put it in the outside pocket. I will probably be buying this in the very near future:

*sigh* I know. The “hoarding” continues.
