Daily Bento

7 Mar

Sometimes I think that the most accurate description of bento should be: Cramming as much food as you possibly can into a smallish container while still maintaining its visual appeal.

Today’s bento represents that description pretty well.

In Cam’s small four square Lock & Lock box, I packed a whole carrot (sliced into coins), strawberries, grapes, a butterfly shaped cake, and two sandwiches (stacked).

Happy Friday!

Camryn literally cried herself to sleep last night because I wouldn’t let her stay up late and eat pea pesto with kale/spinach tortilla chips.

Not to worry though, she had two helpings for breakfast and she’s eating it again for lunch so she’s as happy as a little clam now.

Along with her pea pesto and her chips, she has some salami roll-ups, grape tomatoes, a flapjack from our Graze box, and some dark chocolate covered almonds for lunch in her Easy Lunchbox Brights container.

For lunch/snack today, Cam has salami roll-ups, chocolate almonds, kale & spinach chips, broccoli, tomatoes, and baby carrots.

She sat on the counter last night and helped me put the food into her ELB. She also chose the picks. I’m not sure if that guy in the salami is an octopus or a hot dog or whatever, but he sure is cute.

Lunch today is salami wrapped around mozzarella cheese and skewered with tiny tomatoes on each end. Tortilla chips, baby carrots, and a couple of strawberries complete this bento.

I made a big batch of blueberry muffins last night for the kids to have for breakfast this morning.

Camryn still doesn’t care much for sandwiches but she likes muffins. So I tossed a couple into today’s lunch container along with an apple that I soaked in diluted pineapple juice for a few minutes to keep from turning brown, a few veggie chips, and a piece of string cheese.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

For lunch today, Cam has a few chocolate pancakes cut with heart-shaped cookie cutters, organic fruit leather (also cut into heart shapes), fruit snacks, cheddar cheese hearts, red pepper slices, a tomato heart, and a few grapes on heart picks.

I hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day!

Today’s lunch might seem odd… especially for a six-year-old.

What you see pictured above in Cam’s thermos are the reheated leftovers from last night’s dinner: Pumpkin polenta with roasted brussels sprouts.

I also roasted some cremini mushrooms along with the sprouts but Cam isn’t a fan of mushrooms so those didn’t go into today’s lunch.

I had a spur of the moment dinner idea last night and ran with it. Luckily it worked out and everyone loved it, especially Camryn.

She specifically requested that I send it for lunch today.

What kid asks for brussels sprouts for lunch?

She’s awesome.

In addition to her polenta and sprouts, I filled her Lunchbots Trio with fresh strawberries and tomatoes, sliced sweet peppers, a Babybel, and some cheese crackers.

I love sending leftovers for lunch.

It makes lunch packing so much easier.

I don’t have to get any cutters or stamps out. I just add the reheated leftovers to the warmed thermos, screw on the lid, add a few simple sides, and lunch is ready.

Cam still isn’t crazy about sandwiches and prefers a hot lunch most days so you’ll probably be seeing a lot more pictures of that thermos.

For lunch today, I packed Cam’s thermos full of cheese ravioli, chopped spinach, and marinara. She also has grapes, mandarin oranges, baby Goldfish crackers, pumpkin seeds, and a few chocolate covered almonds.
