I’m honored and excited to accept the One Lovely Blog Award from The Great Zambini.

I started this blog in the fall of 2012 as a way to keep in touch with my friends who had all moved out-of-state. To share recipes, lunches, couponing tips, and maybe the occasional witty anecdote with them.

And for a long time, it was just my friends who stopped by and that was fine. I mean, that was the whole idea anyway. Kind of a hey guys, look what I made today kind of situation.

But now, a little over a year later, people from all over the world are stopping by my little place in cyberspace which is amazing since I never expected anyone other than my small circle of friends and maybe my husband to read my posts occasionally.

So thank you to all of you who follow this blog regularly.

Thank you to those who pop in from time to time.

And thank you to those of you that may be here for the very first time.

We all know the rules for accepting these awards by now. We link back to our nominator (done). We list seven new and hopefully interesting things about ourselves so that our readers can get to know us a little better. And we nominate seven other blogs for the same award.

Seven Random Things

1. If you serve me a drink in a martini glass, I will spill it. Every. Single. Time.

2. No matter how drunk sick or tired I am, I never go to bed without showering, flossing, brushing my teeth, and moisturizing. I might look and feel like garbage but at least I’m clean. 🙂

3. The sound of people scratching their jeans is worse than nails on a chalkboard to me.

4. I Biscoff.

5. I start every day with CNN or local news and end it with bad reality TV or 90’s sitcoms.

6. The smell of artificial lavender makes me sneeze uncontrollably.

7. It’s getting harder and harder to think of random things to share with you guys. It took me several weeks to come up with the six I just shared here and I think we can all agree that there’s nothing particularly stellar up there.

If you’d like to learn some other random bits about me, click here and here.

The best part of receiving this award is that I get to pass it along to seven other bloggers. These are a few food bloggers that I’ve recently discovered. I think you’ll like them too!

1. veggiesdontbite.com I love Sophia’s realistic approach to veganism. And I particularly love her post on all the ways she uses hemp seeds. I can never think of what to do with them. Thanks Sophia!

2. tabithasglutenfreedishes.com A blog I discovered recently and recommended to a friend who is now gluten-free.

3. bunnykitchen.com Beetroot and avocado in a chocolate cake!? Nuff said.

4. theglutenfreetreadmill.com Another blog I recently discovered and recommended to my GF gal pal. I can’t wait to try her vegetarian minestrone. Looks delish!

5. gamingfoodie.wordpress.com Two ingredient cookies? Sold.

6. eclecticlamb.com I love the vegetarian bentos Kathy makes for her nieces and nephews. Her Lion and lamb mini Shephard’s pies are too cute. My little lady would love these.

7. muchamunch.com A pretty blog filled with yummy food and beautiful food photography. Her pistachio and rosewater cupcakes are gorgeous.

I’m an inspirational blogger!?

I know, I was shocked too.

It’s always so gratifying to receive an award nomination from another blogger. No one else understands just how much time and effort goes into keeping a blog going. Especially a blog centered around food.

Many thanks to The Great Zambini for the nomination.

Acceptance of the aforementioned award requires a specific set of rules and they are as follows:

First Rule: You do not talk about Fight Club.

Okay, so that’s not really the first rule for accepting this award but I can’t think about the first rule of any situation without my brain going right to that Fight Club reference.

Kind of like when someone says “stop” my brain thinks it’s hammer time.

Okay seriously, these are the actual rules:

First Rule: Link back to the person who nominated you (done).

Second Rule: Share 7 random but hopefully interesting facts about yourself with your readers.

Third Rule: Pass on the love by nominating 15 other bloggers for the same award.

So here goes, 7 random bits of info about yours truly:

1. I don’t like when people sing happy birthday to me. It’s weird I know, but I’ve always hated it.

2. I am currently learning French with my daughter. Hopefully I’ll never have to actually use it because my accent is horrible. She makes sure to remind me of that fact all the time. Ironically, the phrase I have the most trouble with translates to: “I don’t understand” in English.

3. For about 5 minutes, I seriously considered naming my daughter Plum. When that was vetoed, I actually suggested Violet Plum. I cringe when I think about that today. I blame the pregnancy hormones.

4. I’m extremely empathetic. If you’re crying, I’m crying. End of story.

5. My childhood nickname was Samuel. My grandfather still only calls me Sam, Samuel, or Muely.

6. I was way too old when I found out that approximately did not mean exactly. I wish I had a great excuse for that but sadly I don’t. So there it is.

7. I am terrible with chop sticks. It’s not cute. Not even a little.

Now that that’s done, I’d just like to say to my nominees that your blogs are fabulous. I know that I don’t comment as much as I should but I do stalk visit your blogs regularly and I appreciate all of the work that each of you put into making your corners of the internet a more interesting and inspiring place.

Here are 15 blogs that have inspired me along the way:

I’m so honored and excited to tell you that this little blog has just received it’s very first award!

Thanks so much to  sugarbitznmilkybar for the nomination.

If you have never been to her site, please check it out soon. It’s adorable.

I looked up the German to English translation of Liebster and found several meanings, including: sweetheart, dear, beloved, lovely, valued, favorite, and darling.

The purpose of the award is for bloggers to recognize new or up and coming blogs that are worth having a look at. It’s an award for bloggers given by bloggers, that!

11 Random facts about me:

1. I am NOT a morning person. It takes me a good half hour or so before I become approachable.

2. I’m a self-proclaimed foodie. I love reading about it, watching it being made, talking about it, shopping for it, preparing it, serving it to friends and family, and of course, eating it!

3. With respect to #2, I adore food but there are a handful of foods that I loathe. Raspberries, coconut, ricotta cheese, fresh dill, and fried eggs are all on my no fly list.

4. I won’t season food or add ingredients with my left hand.

5. I skipped kindergarten.

6. I’m a neat freak. Seriously, everything has a place and that’s where I think it needs to be at all times.

7. I don’t care for sci-fi, sports, or crime dramas. How I ended up married I’ll never know.

8. I’m terrified of wax figures, ventriloquist dummies, and animatronic people. Like all of those robotic people that move around all jerky-like on those rides at Disney World. No thank you!

9. I prefer a rainy day to a sunny one.

10. I don’t mind loading the dishwasher, but I hate unloading it. I also don’t care for folding laundry, hence the name of this blog. 😉

11. In high school I was kicked out of an air show with two friends for stealing a golf cart and driving it all over while wearing garbage bag dresses and chef’s hats. We were supposed to be helping serve food or something but that proved to be too boring so we made our own fun.

My answers to the questions posed to me:

1. What was your earliest childhood memory? Playing “shopping” with my Grandfather. I would ride my tricycle around in front of my Grandparents’ house pretending to buy things. He was always the store owner who would take my money and then give me my change. I was probably 3 years old.

2. What is your favourite colour? Turquoise

3. City or country living? City. I’ve lived in both the city and the country and I prefer the city very much. I remember having to drive “into town” if we needed anything. That gets old real quick. I live within walking distance to so many places now and I love that.

4. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? A Marine Biologist.

5. What is your favourite movie? Steel Magnolias, always and forever.

6. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? Italy. Rome, Capri, Florence, Venice, Verona, any of those cities would do. 😉

7. What was the name of the first school that you went to? Gingerbread Preschool. And it actually looked like a big gingerbread house!

8. What is your favourite dessert? All of them. Seriously, I have a major sweet tooth so I couldn’t possibly narrow my answer down to just one thing. As long as there are no raspberries or coconut in it, it’s going on my plate!

9. If you had a completely free evening, what would you do? Probably watch some bad t.v. or read a magazine with a glass of bourbon and some good chocolate.

10. What was the last book you read? The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook by Deb Perelman.

11. If you could invite anyone (dead or alive) to your dinner party, who would you invite? I have to go with Jesus on this one. I think he’d be able to clear up a few things.

And the winners are…

O.k. this part really threw me. I have no idea how to figure out how many followers a blog has and besides that, how do you really count followers? There are several blogs that I read on a regular basis but I’m not listed as a follower anywhere on their site. I don’t get an email alert when they create a new post and I probably haven’t “liked” them on Facebook but I love their blogs and visit them often.

I still count myself as a follower even if they never know I stopped by for a visit.

So all that being said, I’m going to bend the rules here a bit and just nominate a few fellow bento bloggers. I apologize in advance if I’ve nominated you and your blog has more than 200 followers. This isn’t the first time that I’ve broken the rules and it likely won’t be the last.

The winners (in no specific order):

1. Zoe’s Lunchbox

2. Feeling a Little Lunchy

3. Keitha’s Chaos

7. Momma Says

8. My Epicurean Adventures

9. Becoming a Bentoholic

10. Loving Lunches
